Making Otamatone Sound in BUMBLY Synthesizer

Toot Toot-

I am a big fan of Otamatone. That cute face and sound! She makes me laugh whenever I play with her.

Today, I will make Otamatone sound on my phone with BUMBLY.

We need a single-cycle waveform of the target sound as an input for BUMBLY.

What would the Otamatone sound look like? Let's record a simple Otamatone sound and see what the waveform looks like.

You can see the repeating waveform easily. Draw this repeating single-cycle waveform on BUMBLY like this.

Draw single-cycle waveform on BUMBLY

Then, It's time to modulate sound.

1. Flight Variation

You know, pitch of mosquitoes' sound is not stable because the frequency of their wingbeat changes continuously. 'Flight Variation' knobs are for those instability simulations.

When you play the Otamatone, you can hear similar pitch instability because the pressure and position of your fingers change. So I add this instability of pitch with 'Flight Variation' knobs.

2. Wing Size

Use the 'Wing Size' knob to add a little filter effect.

3. Room Simulation

Add reverb effect for sense of space using 'Room Simulation' knobs.

Okay, let's listen to the sound.

As an Otamatone fan, I want to share one more thing. Here's my Otamatone performance, Gonna Fly Now (theme from Rocky). Actually, it took a lot more time to shoot the LEGO scenes than the Otamatone recording. I really enjoyed it anyway, haha.
